246 | | Thomas Zung, architect, and Harry Bertoia worked on several projects together in the 1970s. The last one was the Glenville, Ohio, Library. Harry designed and laid out the pieces for the sounding sculpture for the 1978 commission, but became too sick with cancer to continue. His son, Val Bertoia, took over and welded the rods together to complete the tonal sculpture. It is considered a Harry Bertoia, as it was drawn, planned, designed and prepared by Harry, but the final work was finished by Val.

c.1940
An important developmental chair by Bertoia. While the overall form of the chair is heavily influenced by the work of Aalto and Breuer, Bertoia's treatment of the seat with its structure of repeated wooden dowels points the way to Bertoia's breakthrough furniture series comprised of metal rods. Bertoia's furniture designs are among the most commercially successful of the twentieth century. This experimental chair is from the artist's personal collection and is quite probably the earliest seating design of Bertoia's career. | Wright Auctions

This house represents a refinement of the many principles of organic architecture Mr. Wright explored throughout his long career. Today, the interior reflects the taste and personalities of the current owners, Lord and Lady Palumbo, who are committed to preserve and maintain the house for the enjoyment of all those who, like them, share a deep admiration for Frank Lloyd Wright’s genius. | Chalk Hill, PA, 2009
